Teaching practice

1. Procedures of teaching

This is the first time for me to teach mathematics in English. It was an exciting and rewarding experience. I taught two topic cartesian coordinate and line in cartesian coordinate, around 16 hours of practice in class. I learn a lot from my cooperating teacher and my students (grade 8). I had many opportunities to learn how to manage my class and solve problems in class with myself.

I would like to present my class grade 8G, mathematics, on 15 August 2019, My class stars 7.15 a.m. I taught cartesian coordinate (1.45 hour). Although this is third time for me, I always excited because content is a bit difficult for me and must explain students about mathematical terms in English language. I followed with my lesson plan when I thought my students.

    1.1 Warm up

I started warm up into the lesson by greeting students in English and Thai language. Students in here very active and have high self - confident. I asked my students by used basic question such as "How are you today?" and "Are you ready to study?", and I warm up them by game 7 up game  all the students were excited about the new method of game and their attention was focused towards my teaching.

I then began the lesson on cartesian coordinate, I asked questions to students about cartesian coordinate. Some students could answer, but most do not know. I then explained more and continued to teach the lesson.

     1.2  Presentation Stage

I continued teaching the cartesian coordinate lesson by showing and explaining with a Power Point presentation and the Geometer's Sketchpad. Before showing the Power Point I gave the students some questions, such as “When you have 2 points, What you can create?, and I asked them to find the answer from my teaching and Power Point.  I used Geometer's Sketchpad to explain the lesson which made it easier for them to understand. After I explained the lesson I asked them about the questions and let them answer and I observed their performances and checked who did not understand.

                                  I exlained about Cartesian Coordinate

Then I had a game to play on the Plicker application using the barcode that I divide student 6 group and give barcode to them 1 barcode per 1 group.  I showed the question on the projector and students could answer by showing their barcodes which I scanned. It was a good strategy for class management because students love to play a game and they did something new, this appealed to them and they all paid attention to my lesson. Next I showed their points on the projector and gave some rewards from Thailand to students who got the most points.

    1.3. Practice Stage

I let the students to do the worksheet about cartesian coordinate and I walked around the class to observe their performance and help them with difficult questions.

The students do the worksheet about cartesian coordinate.

   1.4. Wrap-Up Stage

I asked them about the lesson today, I asked them some questions and then I gave them some rewards from Thailand.

2. Time management and organizing activities

I had 1 hour 45 minutes to teach students. I spent 15 minutes to warm-up step and imported into the activity for 15 minutes, 40 minutes for explain and discussion, 35 minutes for evaluation. In making the activities I always consider the grade 8 student’s abilities and skills for me to know what kind of activity and how long they can finish the activity.

3. Problem-solving

There are problems that I found in my class as follows:

          1. I cannot explain any activities clearly such as part of mathematical term.

          2. Sometimes, I want to use games in class, but I can’t. One of the reasons that I find it hard to communicate in English.

          3. Sometimes, I don’t understand what my students are saying because them accent is hard for me to understand. But I know my accent is hard for my students to understand too.

          4. The more students are difficult to control the class.

          5. Sometimes, I want to use a loudspeaker, but I can’t because in classroom don’t have it.

I solve about problems as follows:

          1. I use group process to teach my student in my classroom. I divide students into groups. Associates will work together to solve the problem. That method helps me to control my classroom easier, Students who don’t understand the lesson can ask them friends in the group and solve the problem together. In addition, my students learn how well the group achieved their goal and maintained an effective working relationship.

          2. I write some word which difficult to understand on the board and use video to explain the lesson.

4. Classroom management

I used group process and game to control my classrooms. Furthermore, I give some reward for a student who had the high score in the class that a great way to motivate them.
